I have received multiple — as in more than one — emails this week concerning Wendy’s new “Premium Fillet of Fish” sandwich.  Apparently the top-dogs of the fast food world like to cater to the Lent crowd this time of year and begin to push their usually underrepresented seafood confections.  (more…)

Things to Do with Dollar Coins

You know it exists, but, much like a cat having sex, you’ve never seen one in the wild.  The dollar coin, the elusive (perhaps annoying?) coin that Americans resist with all their casual might in favor of the cotton-printed counterpart.  Meanwhile, the rest of the Earth uses a 1-coin for daily transaction, perhaps most famously the British pound (which is, fortunately, the exact price of a Broomhill Chip-Butty).

Morons with authority are like little kids, maybe around three or four years old, that somehow find daddy’s revolver and run around the house waiving it in the air imitating the cowboys they’ve seen on TV, yelling “Look what I found!”  It’s fun to play grown-up.  And everyday across the country, some moron at some uninteresting corporation is given the overly-generous gift of a sliver of extra authority, which he will subsequently wield like a toy, or a weapon, over his recently appointed underlings in order to pretend that he is important.  (more…)

A Bit of Candide

I‘ve been reading Candide this week on the train.  I have to admit that I’ve never actually read any Volatire before, and I have been constantly surprised to the point where I can say it’s one of the more hysterical things I’ve come across.  This little novella is a rallying cry against optimism, full of a sort of wit-against-reality satire that is unmatched.
